[Conference Announcement] Workshop on Integrating
SMEs into Global Value Chains |

This workshop will include MNC global supply chain management
officials, SME delegates, and SMEs representing the specific
sectors identified during the Manila SMEWG meeting: agriculture,
electronics, handicrafts, food processing, automobiles,
and others. The MNC value chain managers will be asked
to discuss their contractual obligations with global buyers/retailers,
how these obligations translate to suppliers and sub-contractors
across the supply chain, how they might assist SMEs in
securing the required financing to deliver large contracts,
what certifications are required and the available vehicles
for proof of certifications (such as e-certification)
and how audits are implemented, how contracts are generally
structured with SMEs, what happens if the MNC loses the
contract with a buyer due to unforeseen circumstances,
how MNCs notify SMEs of changes in regulations, etc.

[Conference Announcement]APEC High Level Policy Dialogue on Resilient SMEs for Better Global Supply Chains |

In order to strengthen the effectiveness of disaster
resiliency improvement and to secure supply chain connectivity
of SMEs, the multi-year project on Improving Natural
Disaster Resilience of APEC SMEs to Facilitate Trade
and Investment will organize several training workshops
and a high-level policy dialogue to raise awareness
of disaster preemptive mechanisms among APEC regions.
Additionally, during the above events, we will showcase
Policy Framework Models (PFMs) and Business Continuity
Plans (BCPs) greatly achieved in the past two years
(2012-2013). Furthermore, this project will generate
a Focal Point Network at the end of the meeting, which
can integrate related experts from all sectors to practice
this project.
